Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Enzymes and other proteins are polymers built of different combinations of the 20 common amino acids. The order and length of the amino acids in the polymer differ between enzymes, and this determines the 3-dimensional structure, the activity, and specificity of the enzyme. The physico-chemical characteristics of enzymes are mainly dependent on the amino acids building the enzyme. Since all enzymes are built up of the combination of the same 20 common amino acids, the physical and chemical characteristics will be very similar across different enzymes.

The majority of physico-chemical characteristics are not relevant for enzymes e.g.boiling point, and thus, only relevant parameters have been determined.
