Description of key information

The kinematic viscosity of the streams 68477-39-4 and 68476-55-1 in this category is in the range 0.55 mm2/s to 1.07 mm2/s at 20°C and 0.38 mm2/s to 0.83 mm2/s at 40°C.  The dynamic viscosity of the streams is in the range 0.38 mPa.s to 0.95 mPa.s at 20°C and 0.32mPa.s to 0.73 mPa.s at 40°C. 
For the stream 64742-94-5 the kinematic viscosity has been measured to be 1.9 mm2/s at 25°C and 6.78 mm2/s at 20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Proprietary studies were available from GKA Competence Centre Analytics (2008a, 2008b) for the streams 68477-39-4 (kinematic viscosity 1.07 mm2/s at 20?C and 0.83 mm2/s at 40?C; dynamic viscosity 0.95mPa.s at 20?C and 0.73 mPa.s at 40?C) and 68467-55-1 (kinematic viscosity 0.55 mm2/s at 20?C and 0.47 mm2/s at 40?C; dynamic viscosity 0.38 mPa.s at 20?C and 0.32 mPa.s at 40?C). These studies were in accordance with a standard guideline and are considered reliable for assessment. For the case of the stream 68467-55-1 the substance tested contained ca. 1% benzene which results in the substance not meeting the category chemical justification criteria. However, the amount of benzene is small and will not invalidate the result of this physical chemical endpoint. The data from these studies will be read across to other members of the category.

RÜTGERS Germany GmbH, Analytisches Zentrallabor (AZL) (2010) and RÜTGERS, Belgium, Dept. Quality & Environment (2009) provided data for the stream 64742-94-5 (kinematic viscosity was 1.9 mm2/s at 25?C and 6.78 mm2/s at 20?C) via a signed Certificate of Analysis and Company letter, respectively. This data provided details on the method used and was considered adequate for assessment.
