Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Sulfonic acids, shale-oil, sodium salts do not exhibit pyrophoric properties, nor flammability in contact with water. In addition, a flammability study is not technically feasible on a liquid. On these bases, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
Executive summary:

Sulfonic acids, shale-oil, sodium salts do not exhibit pyrophoric properties, nor flammability in contact with water. In addition, a flammability study is not technically feasible on a liquid. On these bases, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Description of key information

No flammability determined. Sulfonic acids, shale-oil, sodium salts are a liquid at room temperature and so conducting a flammability study for solids or gases would not be feasible. In addition to this, experience of use determines that neither a pyrophoric properties study nor a flammability in contact with water study need to be carried out as there is no evidence of either spontaneously igniting in air at room temperature or exhibiting flammable properties in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Sulfonic acids, shale-oil, sodium salts do not exhibit pyrophoric properties, nor flammability in contact with water. In addition, a flammability study is not technically feasible on a liquid. On these bases, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
