Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The potential of the UVCB substance to be corrosive, or skin irritant was established by classifying the complex metal substance based on Mixture rules from EU CLP (cut-off/ additivity of classified components to derive Hazard class). The classification criteria (as set out in EU CLP Guidance Annex I: 3.2.2.6 Corrosion and 3.2.2.7 Irritation) were used to estimate effects.

sulfuric acid hydrate
EC Number:
922-670-1
IUPAC Name:
sulfuric acid hydrate
Details on test material:
Worst case (max across industry) as defined in iuclid section 1.2;
See IUCLID Section 1.4, for company specific elemental composition; and representative sample for mineralogical information (IUCLID Section 4.23 -Outotec report)

Results and discussion

Any other information on results incl. tables

The calculated classification via cut-off/additivity method resulted in " corrosion/skin irritation: category 1A”, driven by sulphuric acid.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
not irritating
Remarks:
Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: EU
Conclusions:
Result can be used to predict irritation/corrosion effect, and to classify the UVCB substance
Executive summary:

The study provided a conservative estimate of the skin irritation/corrosion effect, derived on basis of the Classification outcome (Mixture toxicity rules) from a worst case (max across industry) as defined in IUCLID section 1.2/1.4/4.23. The result is applicable to all Sulphuric acid, waste gas cooling and washing, copper smelting that fall under the defined concentration ranges (IUCLID section 1.2).

Results from calculated classification (using mixture toxicity rules) are supported (WoE) by additional consideration from phys chem properties of the UVCB substance.
