Description of key information
Appearance:
Based on available data from various reliable sources such as authoritative database and handbook, the chemical sulfoacetic acid was observed to be an organic hygroscopic crystal in appearance
Melting point:
Based on available data from various reliable sources such as authoritative database and handbook, the melting point of chemical sulfoacetic acid was determined to be 85 degree C.
Boiling point:
Based on available data from various reliable sources such as authoritative database and handbook, the decomposition temperature of chemical sulfoacetic acid was determined to be 245 degree C
Density:
Based on prediction done using ACD/I-Lab 2.0,the density of chemical Sulfoacetic acid was estimated to be 1.875 ± 0.06 g/cm3 at 25 degree C.
Particle size distribution:
The particle size distribution of sulfoacetic acid was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron.
Vapour pressure:
Modified Grain method (Mean of Antoine and Modified Grain methods) was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the substancesulfoacetic acidusing MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE.
The estimated vapour pressure of the substancesulfoacetic acidat 25deg C was0.000696 Pa.
Partition coefficent:
Octanol water partition coefficient of the Sulphoacetic acid (CAS no. 123 -43 -3) was estimated. The estimated log Pow is -0.88 . On the basis of estimated value, the Sulphoacetic acid (CAS no. 123 -43 -3) can be considered as hydrophillic in nature.
Water Solubility:
WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of the substancesulfoacetic acid
The estimated water solubility of the substancesulfoacetic acidat 25 deg C was1.037e+005mg/l
Based on the estimated value, the test substance was very soluble in water.
Surface tension:
Based on the prediction done using ACD labs, the surface tension of chemical sulfoacetic acid was predicted to be 95.2 ± 3.0 dyne/cm.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of chemicalsulfoacetic acidwas done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method is closed cup method using Pensky Martin’s Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test substance determined to be 128 °C at 966 hPa
Auto flammability:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid having a melting point <= 160°C.
Flammability:
sulfoacetic acid does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that sulfoacetic acid is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus sulfoacetic acid was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
