the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is hydrolytically unstable at pH 4, 7 and 9 (half-life less than 12 hours)

Justification for type of information:

The hydrolysis study demonstrates that the commercial product hydrolyses rapidly and completely, and that the it therefore cannot exist in water.
This behaviour also applies equally to the test substance "reaction product ethylene glycol and para-formaldehyde. This behaviour is fundamentally incompatible with the n octanol/water partition method, which requires that the substance under test remain intact in the aqueous phase.
