Description of key information

Appearance/physical state/colour:

The substance 2, 4 -Thiazolidinedione was determined to be organic crystalline solid.

Melting point/freezing point:

Melting point value for 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione was determined to be 128 °C.

Boiling point:

Boiling point of the 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione is determined to be 179 Deg C at the pressure 19 torr.

Density:

Density of the 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione is 1.2887 g/cm3 at temperature 25 Deg C.

Vapour pressure:

Based on the estimation done from EPI Suite software the vapour pressure of the 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione was estimated to be  2.253e-7 kpa at 25 Deg C.

Partition coefficient:

Partition coefficient (log Pow) value of 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione was determined to be -0.29 at 25 Deg C.

Water solubility:

Water solubility value for the substance 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione is estimated to be1.834e+005mg/L at 25 deg C, indicating that test substance is very soluble in water.

Surface Tension:

Surface tension of the 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione from above study is predicted to be 0.0562 N/m.

Flash point:

Flash point value of 1, 3-thiazolidine-2, 4-Dione is determined to be 63.03°C.

Autoflammablity:

1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione is not auto-flammable.

Flammablity:

1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness:

the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Oxidising Properties:

the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
