Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the low toxicity of TGIC in green algae and based on the expected low concentration in water, no further test with aquatic plants (fresh-water and marine) are performed. As TGIC is rapidly hydrolized in water and inherently biodegradable, the expected concentrations in water are expected to be below the PNEC, making it not necessary to perform additional tests.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

TGIC is rapidly hydrolized in water (at pH 7 the half-life is 4.6 days, at higher pH it is more rapid) and it is inherently biodegradable.

These two properties together with specific use scenarios and the Regulatory obligations to avoid release to the environment, lead to very low environmental concentrations, specifically in water. These concentrations are expected to be below the PNEC of 29 mg/l for algae, as the toxicity of TGIC in short term tests showed low to moderate toxicity to aquatic organisms.

For these reasons the producers of TGIC believe that no further tests on aquatic plants (marine and fresh-water) are required or scientifically justified.
