In 1998, the SCOEL considered the several repeated inhalation exposure studies in animals to form the best basis for deriving suitable occupational exposure limits. On the basis of NOAEL ranging between 0.3 to 1.0 ppm, the SCOEL recommended an 8 hours TWA of 0.1 ppm (0.14 mg/m3) and a STEL (15 mn) of 0.2 ppm (0.28 mg/m3) limit peaks in exposure which could result in irritation. The SCOEL considered a skin notation is not necessary.

A new study was available in 1999 (Newton et al.). According to ECHA guidance document R.8 (Appendix R8.-13, May 2008) a DNEL was established on the basis of this study and the value indicates that the IOEL provides the appropriate level of protection required by REACH.
