Description of key information

The purpose of this study was the determination of the relative self-ignition temperature of the test item according to Guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1 (Grewer-oven) and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, UN test N.4 for self-heating substances.
In the screening test according to Grewer an exothermal effect was observed starting at 100 °C. Due to this result further tests were necessary to classify (or exclude) the test item as “self-heating substance” of class 4.2 according to the transport regulations.
The results given in this report only apply to the tested sample. Furthermore the results apply only to the classes investigated. Therefore it cannot be excluded by this report that any other classifications have to be applied to the sample. The classification was done according to the criteria of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Manual of Test and Criteria, 5th revised edition).

Additional information

According to the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1 (Grewer-Oven), self-ignition was observed at 100 °C.

For the classification of division 4.2 the test item was tested according to division 4.2 (self-heating substances) according to the UN test N.4, described in the “Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Manual of Tests and Criteria”, 5th revised edition 2009.

Due to the positive result at 140 °C (10 cm cube), the negative result at 140 °C (2.5 cm cube), the positive result at 120 °C (10 cm cube) and the negative result at 100 °C (10 cm cube) the test item has to be classified as “self-heating substance” according division 4.2, packing group (PG) III if transported in packages with a volume > 450 litres.

The test item also has to be classified as “self-heating substance” according to chapter 2.11, category 2 of the GHS (CLP) regulations if transported in packages with a volume > 450 litres
