Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:
Bergamot oil is a Natural Complex Substance (NCS) for which 97.3% of the constituents is identified. All identified constituents including those known down to 0.1% are considered for the PBT-vPvB assessment. None of the known constituents of Bergamot oil meets the criteria for P/vP laid down in Annex XIII of REACH. Therefore none of the known constituents of Bergamot oil meets the criteria for vPvB or PBT.

Persistence assessment

Up to 96.6% of the composition of this NCS are in the category of readily biodegradable substances. For some constituents (<1%) the ready biodegradability is decided based on the ready biodegradability of structurally related substances. For 2 substances, each typically present at 0.05%, no data on the biodegradation were available but based on BIOWIN predictions, these two constituents do not meet the screening criteria for 'Persistent' (PBT-criteria).

Therefore, none of the known constituents of Bergamot oil is considered P (or vP). 97.3% of the composition of this NCS is in the category of ready biodegradable substances and therefore Bergamot oil is considered as readily biodegradable.

Bioaccumulation assessment

None of the known constituents of Bergamot oil meet the criteria for P/vP. Therefore it can be concluded that none of the constituents are a PBT or vPvB without further evaluation of the B/vB properties.

Toxicity assessment

None of the known constituents of Bergamot oil meet the criteria for P/vP. Therefore it can be concluded that none of the constituents are PBT or vPvB without further evaluation of the T properties.

Likely routes of exposure:

Investigation of the likely routes of exposure is not needed as the substance is not PBT or vP/vB.
