Additional information

Appearance/physical state/colour:

3-Phenoxybenzyl alcohol was found to be light yellow coloured organic liquid.

Melting point/freezing point:

The Freezing point determination of test item3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol(CAS No.13826-35-2) was done using Ice and salt mixture as cooling bath. The determination was done on the basis of cooling curve (time vs temperature) obtained when the test item was placed in the cooling bath. No crystallization was observed up to -13.1°C. Hence, the freezing point was concluded to be less than -13.1°C at 976.1hPa.

Boiling point:

The boiling point determination of Test item3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol(CAS No. 13826-35-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according toSiwoloboff. The mean boiling point was found to be greater than 250 °C at 977.4 hPa.

Density:

Density of 3-Phenoxybenzyl alcohol is reported to be 1.146g/ml at 25 deg.C.When this value converted at 20 deg.C it become 0.9168 g/ml

Vapour pressure:

Vapour pressure of test substance 3-Phenoxybenzyl alcohol was estimated to be 0.000313 Pa at 25°C by Modified Grain Method.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol (CAS No. 13826-35-2) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to structural similarity with the test substance. The reference substances were benzyl alcohol, 4 Methoxy phenol, phenol, benzene, Diphenyl ether, 2,6 Diphenylpyridine having Pow value ranging from 1.1 to 4.9.TheLog Pow value was found tobe 2.797± 0.0006 at 25°C.

Water solubility:

The water solubility determination of test item 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol (CAS No.13826-35-2) was done as per the HPLC method. The solubility of 13826-35 -2 in water was found to be 362.28 mg/L @ 25oC indicating that the test chemical is moderately soluble in water.

Surface tension

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this end point was considered for waiver since surface activity is not a desired property of the material considering its use as an intermediate for synthesis of target molecules used in pharmaceuticals and as a solvent in certain industrial applications.

Flash point:

The flash point determination of Test item 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol(CAS No. 13826-35-2) was done. The method is closed cup method using Pensky-Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The mean flashpoint of the test item was found to be 138.6°C at 977.8 hPa.

Auto Flammability

The chemical 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol has a reported NFPA flammability rating that ranges from 0 to 1. Also, the chemical did not catch fire when exposed to room temperature. This indicates that the chemical is not likely to be autoflammable

Flammability

The chemical 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol has a reported NFPA flammability rating that ranges from 0 to 1. This indicates that the chemical is not likely to exhibit flammable property. Thus, the chemical is regarded as non-flammable for the purpose of chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation this testing was not conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol. Thus, the chemical is not considered to be explosive.

Oxidising Properties

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials. 3-phenoxybenzylic alcohol, on the basis of the chemical structure contains oxygen but no halogen atoms and the oxygen atoms are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is not expected to have oxidising properties.

pH:

The pH determination of test item 2-phenoxybenzylic alcohol(CAS No.13826-35-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of pH meter. The pH was found to be 8.16 at 28.7 °C.
