Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:
The test chemical sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common Name: Ext D&C Violet 2) was found to be a Dark Violet or Purple colored powder.
Melting Point:
The melting point determination of Test item Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl) amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (CAS No. 4430-18-6 ) (Common Name: Ext D&C Violet 2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The mean melting point range was found to be 275.5 °C -281.6°C at 964.4 hPa.
Boiling Point:
The boiling point determination of Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate(CAS No. 4430-18-6 ) (Common Name: Ext D&C Violet 2) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test was conducted in replicates and mean boiling point was found to be greater than 250°C at 974.5 hPa.
Density:
The mean density of test item Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate(CAS No. 4430-18-6 )was determined following OECD Guideline 109 andTest methods: Pour density and tapped density of powders”recommended in The International Pharmacopoeia, Fourth Edition, 2014[1]according to theOECD 109 using bulk density apparatus .The mean pour density and tapped density of the test item was found to be0.4880 g/cm3and 0.5131 g/cm3at 35oC and 976.4 hPa.
Particle Size distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (CAS No. 4430-18-6 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 106 micron indicating that the particles are not of inhalable size.
Vapour Pressure:
The vapour pressure of the test compound Acid Violet 43 as predicted by EPI suite (Modified Grain method) is estimated to be 7.18E-02 Pa.
Partition coefficient:
The partition coefficient (Log Kow/Pow) of the test compound Acid Violet 43 as predicted by EPI suite is estimated to be 1.2908.
Water Solubility:
The water solubility determination of test item Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (CAS No. 4430-18-6 ) was done gravimetrically as per the shake flask method using membrane filtration followed by air drying. The water solubility was found to be 50.30 g/L at 28 °C. Thus, it can be concluded that the test chemical is very soluble in water.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this testing needs to be carried out only if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common name: Ext D&C Violet 2) is used mostly as a pharmaceutical color. For this uses, surface activity is not a desired property and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Flash Point:
The flash point determination of Sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (CAS No. 4430-18-6 ) was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 185.3°C at 968.9 hPa.
Auto Flammability:
The chemical sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common name: Ext D&C Violet 2) does not catch fire spontaneously upon exposure to air under normal conditions of temperature and pressure. In addition, there is no evidence that the chemical is "Auto Flammable". Thus, this end point was considered for waiver.
Flammability:
The NFPA rating for flammability is not applicable to the chemical sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common name: Ext D&C Violet 2). Also, there are no evidences that indicates that this chemical is flammable. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver.
Explosiveness:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study is scientifically unjustified since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the chemical sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common Name: Ext D&C Violet 2). Also, there are no known evidence that the chemical is explosive. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver.
Oxidising properties:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate (Common Name: Ext D&C Violet 2) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials,on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen atoms but no halogen atoms and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. THus, the chemical is unlikely to exhibit oxidising properties and this study was therefore considered for waiver.
