Additional information

One experimental study is available investigating the short-term effects of Reaction products from the esterification of neopentylglycol with fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) and C18-unsatd. and fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers to aquatic invertebrates (Migchielsen, 2000). The study was performed according to ISO 6341-15 (GLP) with the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna. Water accommodated fractions (WAF) of nominal 0.1, 1, 10 and 100 mg/L were tested under static test conditions. WAFs were prepared individually except the lowest test concentration of 0.1 mg/L which was prepared by dilution of the 1 mg/L WAF. In general WAFs should not be prepared by serial dilution but since this loading rate is of no importance for the assessment of the study result this deviation was not considered to affect the interpretation of the study. No effects on mobility of D. magna were observed after 48 h resulting in an EL50 (48 h) of > 100 mg/L (nominal). The highest WAF loading rate of 100 mg/L was observed to contain undissolved test material. Thus, possible physical effects were investigated as well in the present study.
