Data on the acute toxicity of the target substance Fatty acids, C12-18, even numbered, 3-methylbutyl esters (CAS 1314763-50-2) to fish is not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the analogue substances Isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) and Isopropyl palmitate (CAS 142-91-6) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13.

The toxicity of the source substance Isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) to bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) was tested according to EPA Guideline EPA 660/3-75-009 (Sousa et al. 1979). The static test was set up with the nominal test concentrations 78, 130, 220, 360, 600 and 1000 mg/L. There were no toxic effects observed in the species tested after an incubation period of 96 h up to 1000 mg/L, resulting in an LC50 (96 h) value of >1000 mg/L. After 24 and 48 h fish were observed to behave lethargic, however all fish recovered. Chemical flakes were observed to adhere to the glassware and tubes and/or collect as film at the surface. In a second study the acute toxicity of the source substance Isopropyl palmitate (CAS 142-91-6) to the zebra fish (Danio rerio) was tested under semi-static conditions according to ISO 7346 -1 at the following concentrations: 1000, 3000 and 10000 mg/L (Richterich, 2001). There were no toxic or sublethal effects observed in the species tested after an incubation period of 96 h at any concentration (LC50 (96 h) > 10000 mg/L).

Based on the results for the read-across substances, Fatty acids, C12-18, even numbered, 3-methylbutyl esters (CAS 1314763-50-2) is considered to be not toxic to fish within the limit of water solubility.
