Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Flammability:
The flame of a gas burner could ignite the test substance pile. The test substance burned with a yellow flame and turned into a black charred residue. The test substance melted and emitted yellow sparks and black smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, propagation of combustionwith flame was observed. The burning time over a distance of 200 mm was 239 seconds. Based on the result of the preliminary test, the main study was performed. During the main study the burning time of the test substance over a distance of 100 mm was 152, 115, 128, 188, 135 and 132
seconds, respectively. Because the fastest burning time over 100 mm was > 45 seconds, DCM is considered not highly flammable.

Flammability in contact with water:
In none of the tests 1 - 3 as described above, the evolution of a gas was observed. Also, during the performance of test 4 (in triplicate), no
evolution of a gas was observed in either test. No spontaneous ignition took place in any step of the test procedure and there was no evolution of
(flammable) gas. In conclusion, DCM is not highly flammable (in contact with water).

Pyrophoric properties:
In none of the six tests, spontaneous ignition of the test substance occurred during dropping from about 1 meter height or within five minutes of
settling. Based on these results, DCM is considered not pyrophoric.
