Guideline:
other: BS4633: Determination of crystallizing point
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Swiss GLP compliance programme (inspected on September 09 and 30, 2002/ signed on December 2002)
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Physical state: liquid
- Storage condition of test material: refrigerator (0-10°C) under nitrogen
Melting / freezing pt.:
19 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 atm
Decomposition:
no
Sublimation:
no

Starting temperature: 294 K (det.1) and 298 K (det.2)

Individual measurements: (1) 292 K, (2) 292 K.

The test material remained unchanged until 288 K, then a crystal of test material was added to the supercooled liquid to initiate the crystallisation.

Transition occurs within accuracy limits, therefore freezing temperature will be expressed as a single value.

Executive summary:

The freezing point of the test substance was determined according to OECD/102/EU A1 guideline, using BS4633 method for the determination of crystallizing point.

The determination was carried out in duplicate, with seeding to initiate crystallisation.

A freezing temperature of 292 +/- 0.5K (19 +/- 0.5 °C) was determined for the test material.

Description of key information

Freezing point is borderline to ambient temperature.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
19 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study on freezing point measurement, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EU/BS method and under GLP, is available. It is considered as a key study, the result is considered as key data.

As seeding was used to initiate crystallisation, the substance may be observed whether as a low melting solid, or a subcooled liquid.
