Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of N-vinylformamide to microorganisms was tested in three different studies. Two tests were performed according to DIN 38412 part 8 focusing on the growth inhibition induced by the substance in Pseudomonas putida. After 17 hours of exposure EC10 -values of 19.1 and 22 mg/L were determined respectively. The respiration inhibition of industrial activated sludge by the test substance was determined in a guideline study according to OECD 209. An EC20 >1000 mg/L was detected after 30 minutes (BASF AG, 1988). Since the short term respiration test was performed with industrial sludge, the EC10 of 19.9 mg/L determined using Pseudomonas putida as test organism was used for PNEC calculation.
