Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In an OECD 301A test sodium isobutyrate solution was 94% degraded within the 10-day window and is therfore considered to be readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

An OECD 301A DOC die-away test was conducted to test the ready biodegradability of sodium isobutyrate solution. A measured volume of inoculated mineral medium, containing a known concentration of test substance as the nominal sole source of carbon, was aerated at 22± 2oC for 28 days. The DOC concentration was measured after 0, 7,14, 21, and 28 days.

The DOC removal in test flasks was found to be 100% by day 28. There was 94% removal within the 10 day window. As such, the test substance is classified as readily biodegradable.
