Vinyl acetate is initially enzymatically hydrolysed to acetate and acetaldehyde. This is followedby either mineralization or biotranformation into biomass (EU RAR, 2008).

Vinyl acetate has been demonstrated to be readily biodegradable on the basis of the CITI (1992) study and a number of supporting studies.
