Description of key information

- Flammability: Black liquor is not highly flammable based on a preliminary flammability test and no classification is required .
- Flammability in contact with water: Black liquor is regarded as not being flammable in contact with water based on the practical experience of the testing facility and the manufacturer.
- Pyrophoricity: Black liquor is regarded as not being pyrophoric based on the practical experience of the testing facility and the manufacturer.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Flammability: The dried (lyophilised) test substance did not ignite until 2 minutes while heating with hot gas flames. The test substance did not burn over a length of 200 mm within 4 minutes. Therefore the full test programme (main test) was not carried out and Black liquor is not classified as highly flammable, according to the test guideline (EC 440/2008, A.10).

Flammability in contact with water: Black liquor is regarded as not being flammable in contact with water based on the practical experience of the testing facility and the manufacturer, showing that no gases are developed when SCP liquor is in contact with water.

Pyrophoricity: Black liquor is regarded as not being pyrophoric based on the practical experience of the testing facility and the manufacturer.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Flammability: Black liquor was not flammable in the preliminary flammability test, and the full test programme (main test) needed not to be carried out. Black liquor is not classified as highly flammable, according to the test guideline (EC 440/2008, A.10).
