Additional information

The results of the Supporting studies (The American Forest & Paper, 2003 and Lee & al., 1981) confirm the results of the Key study, even though some uncertainties about the composition of analysed Black liquor samples exist (Black liquor vs. weak Black liquor).

Short description of key information:
- There was no available data concerning germ cell mutagenicity concerning Black liquor.
- Black liquor was not mutagenic in the Ames bacterial mutagenicity test with Salmonella typhimurium with or without metabolic activation according to the results in the Key study (OECD 471 and EU Method B.13/14).

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Black liquor is not mutagenic in the Ames bacterial mutagenicity test. There in no available data on germ cell mutagenicity of Black liquor, and therefore classification is not possible to assign.
