Sodium dichromate is a reddish to bright orange deliquescent crystalline solid with a high melting point which usually exists in its di-hydrated state. The substance becomes anhydrous at around 100°C, melts at approximately 357°C and decomposes above 400°C. It is very soluble in water, has a relative density of approximately 2.5, is a strong oxidising agent and is not explosive.
