Description of key information

The logPow of 4.92 of Distillates (coal tar), heavy oils (anthracene oil >50 ppm BaP, AOH [CAS no. 90640-86-1]) is estimated as the arithmetic mean of the three key components in AOH (see above Table 2):
Phenanthrene: logPow = 4.57
Fluoranthene: logPow = 5.20
Pyrene: logPow = 4.98

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
4.92
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

In a standard study using the HPLC method (OECD 117), the log Pow values of AOH constituents ranged from 4.43 to 6.33

The GC-analytical composition of AOH confirms that constituents present in AOH cover the Pow range from fluorene/phenanthrene to benzo[a]pyrene.

The large similarity of log Pow values of the selected key components and their already published log Pow has also been confirmed by this HPLC test.

Therefore, the mean value of phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene adopted as a log Pow for the total UVCB substance is continued to be used for risk assessment based on published values (data from EU 2008: Risk Assessment of Pitch, Coal Tar, high temp.):

Phenanthrene: log Pow = 4.57

Fluoranthene: log Pow = 5.20

Pyrene: log Pow = 4.98
