Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Ready biodegradability tests for several alkyl sulfates are available. Based on the results of screening tests for biodegradation in water it can be concluded that alkyl sulfates with carbon chain length of C8-C18 are readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD SIDS 2007).

Since no reliable biodegradability tests are available for C12-14AS NH4 (CAS 90583-11-2), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to another structurally related substances was conducted. Read-across data on the following substances was used: C12AS Na (CAS 151-21-3), C14AS Na (1191-50-0), a similar C12-14 mixture: C12-14AS TEA (CAS 90583-18-9), C12 -14AS Na (CAS 85586-07-8) and C12-16 mixture: C12-16AS Na (73296-89-6).

Ready biodegradation was tested in the GLP studies according to:

- OECD 301 B for CAS 1191-50-0 (Hansmann, 1995), CAS 151-21-3 (Brunswik-Titze, 2005) and CAS 73296-89-6 (Clarke, 2005),

- OECD 301 D for CAS 151-21-3 (Börner, 1996) and CAS 85586-07-8 (Werner, 1996),

- EU method C.4-A (Diefenbach 1995) for CAS 90583-18-9.

All these studies showed ready biodegradation of the test substances.

Due to structural and property similarities with the tested category members it can be concluded that C12-14AS NH4 (CAS 90583-11-2) is also readily biodegradable.
