Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Significant bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is not expected (log Pow of -0.4).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl (EC No. 931-700-2) and all other alkyl dimethyl betaines are readily biodegradable and the log Kow was determinated as -0.40 for Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl (EC No. 931-700-2). Therefore, Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl has a low potential for bioaccumulation.

According to the SRC KOWWIN v1.67 the additionally calculated log Pow´s for other alkyl dimethyl betaines range from 0.47 to 1.46. Therefore, the bioconcentration factor (BCF) was estimated for Betaines, coco alkyldimethyl, 1-Tetradecanaminium, N-(carboxymethyl)-N, N-dimethyl-, hydroxide, inner salt and 1-Dodecanaminium, N-(carboxymethyl)-N, N-dimethyl-, hydroxide, inner salt with the worst case log Pow data and the model (SRC BCFBAF v3.00) reveal a BCF of 70.79 for the alkyl dimethyl betaines

Taking the available information into account, a further study is not needed.
