First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Remove contaminated clothing.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air.

On skin contact:

Wash thoroughly with soap and water.

On contact with eyes:

Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open.

On ingestion:

Rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: The most important known symptoms and effects are described in the labelling (see section 2 of the Safety Data Sheet) and/or in section 11 of the Safety Data Sheet.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Symptomatic treatment (decontamination, vital functions).

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

water spray, dry powder, carbon dioxide

Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons:

water jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides

The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment:

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information:

If without risk, remove intact containers from exposure to fire, or spray unopened containers with water mist to keep cool. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Use personal protective clothing. Information regarding personal protective measures see, section "Exposure Controls/Personal Protection".

Environmental precautions

Discharge into the environment must be avoided.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Dike spillage. Pump off product.

For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr).

Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations. To clean the floor and all objects contaminated by this material, use plenty of water.

Reference to other sections

Information regarding exposure controls/personal protection and disposal considerations can be found in section "Exposure Controls/Personal Protection" and section "Disposal Considerations".

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Further information on storage conditions: Containers should be stored tightly sealed in a dry place. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Storage stability:

Storage temperature: 20 °C

Storage duration: 24 Months

From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the warrantee of application properties can be deduced.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Breathing protection if gases/vapours are formed. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A)

Hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended:  Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Suitable materials for short-term contact (recommended: At least protective index 2, corresponding > 30 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374)

chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection:

In order to satisfy general industrial hygiene rules safety glasses with side-shields (e.g. EN 166) are recommended.

Body protection:

No body protection required if used for intended purpose and satisfying generally accepted industrial hygiene rules.

General safety and hygiene measures

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wearing of closed work clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Store work clothing separately.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

No hazardous reactions if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Corrosion to metals:

No corrosive effect on metal.

Formation of flammable gases:       Remarks:       Forms no flammable gases in the presence of water.

Chemical stability

The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Reacts with acids and strong oxidizing agents. Exothermic reaction.

Conditions to avoid

Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Incompatible materials

Substances to avoid:

strong acids, strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products

Hazardous decomposition products:

No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

A waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) cannot be specified, due to dependence on the usage.

The waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) must be specified in cooperation with disposal agency/manufacturer/authorities.

Contaminated packaging:

Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
