Description of key information

A case report of a 62-year old woman with a history of severe dermatitis.  A patch testing was conducted according to the British Contact Dermatitis Society standard series but insufficient detail on the experimental procedure and results are available for assessment.

Additional information

A case report presented a 62-year old woman with a history of severe intermittent facial dermatitis including itchy, burning sensation and oedema was reported. Further patch testing was conducted to individual ingredients of the moisturizing lotion (2, 5, and 10% of dioctyl maleate in petrolatum). Results showed a positive reaction to dioctyl maleate at all concentrations. Control patients were negative. Authors suggested that dioctyl maleate was a skin sensitizer.
