PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

None of the LCAAs in the category meet the established criteria for P/vP or B/vB. Some chain lengths meet the criteria for T based on aquatic ecotoxic effects. However none of the members of the category is PBT or vPvB.

It is notable that long chain aliphatic alcohols (LCAAs) such as those in this category occur naturally and are found in sediments from sites where there has been minimal anthropogenic contamination, at concentrations in the range approx. 0.0036 to 376 mg/kg in freshwater sediments, and up to approx. 15 mg/kg in marine sediments. (Mudge et al.,2008). Refer to the CSR Chapters 4, 7 and 8 for further discussion.
