Acute studies on all three trophic levels were performed to investigate the aquatic toxicity of 2 -propylheptan-1 -ol. Daphnia magna turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (48 h) of 1.33 mg/L. Effects of 2 -propylheptan-1 -ol towards fish and algae were found in the same range providing an LC50 (96 h) of 1.1 to 3.3 mg/L and ErC50 (72 h) = 5.86 mg/L, respectively.

Furthermore, a semi-static GLP guideline study according to OECD 211 was conducted in order to investigate the long term toxicity of the test substance to Daphnia magna. Based on the reproduction of the test organisms a NOEC (21 d) of 269 µg/L was determined. This value relates to the time weighted mean of the measured concentrations (Noack DRE14845, 2012).
