Additional information

The potential of 2-(phenylmethoxy)naphthalene for bioaccumulation was examined in a study according OECD guideline 305 exposing Lepomis macrochirus to a high and a low concentration of the substance.

At the low dose level, plateau levels in edibles were reached at 120 hours and in non-edibles as well as whole fish within 58 hours amounting, on average, to 1.418, 8.428 and 7.026 mg/kg, respectively. Thereafter, radioactivity was rapidly depurated from fish and fish parts with half-lives of 11 -16 hours. At the end of the depuration period, values were low (0.012 - 0.031 mg/kg). Estimated bioconcentration factors for parent compound were 38, 203 and 180 for edibles, non-edibles and whole fish, respectively.

At the high dose, plateau Levels were also reached after 120 hours (edibles)and 58 hours (nonedibles as well as whole fish) and amounted, on average, tO 17.266, 82.085 and 53.387 mg/kg, respectively. Thereafter, as compared to the low dose, similar depuration half-lives (11-14 hours) were determined and radioactivity levels were low (0.141- 0.266 mg/kg) at the end of the depuration period. Based on parent compound, the estimated bioconcentration factors amounted to 84 (edibles), 431 (non-edibles) and 270 (whole fish).

In addition, the potential for bioaccumulation was analyzed by using the BCFBAF (v.3.01) modul of the Episuite software package. Based on the available partition coefficient Kow a BCF of 925 L/kg ww was calculated. Both available data clearly show a low potential for bioaccumulation only.
