Various studies covering short- and long-term exposure of all three taxonomic groups (fish, crustacea, algae) as well as a STP toxicity study were available. Due to the low water solubility of the substance in several studies acetone, respectively DMF, as a disperser was used.

In all three short-term studies no threshold concentration could be determined as no effects were observed up to the highest concentration used in the tests. In the available long-term studies with fish (OECD 210) and Daphnids (OECD 211) a NOEC of 1.6 µg/L, respectively 36 µg/L (nominal), were observed.

Toxicity to STP microorganisms was examined in a study according to OECD guideline 209 showing a low toxicity (NOEC (30 min) > 202 mg/L). However, the observed NOEC was stated as nominal concentration exceeding the water solubility of 2 -(phenylmethoxy)naphthalene by far.
