Additional information

Acute Oral Toxicity (FSHA 16 CFR 1500.3):

The oral LD50 was determined to be greater than 2000 mg/kg and less than 5000 mg/kg in male rats (Costello, B.A., 1983). All animals in the 5000 mg/kg group died. No death occurred at 2000 mg/kg. Sublethal effects included ruffled appearance, depression, and diarrhea. No gross abnormalities or effects on body weight were observed. No specific organ toxicity was evident. In accordance with EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008), classification is not required for acute oral toxicity based on the available data.

 

Acute Dermal Toxicity (OECD Guideline 402):

An LD50 of > 2002 mg/kg was identified for the analog 283-392-8 via dermal application for rabbits. Prostration in one animal, and desquamation of the skin noted on test day 11 were observed. No specific organ toxicity is evident. In accordance with EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008), classification is not required for acute dermal toxicity based on the available data.

 

Acute Inhalation Toxicity (in Accordance with OECD Guideline 403):

No data on acute inhalation toxicity is available for EC 270-478-5, but weight of evidence suggests that the test material is not toxic via inhalation route for the following reasons: 1) EC 270-478-5 has very low vapor pressure, 2) inhalation exposure is not a human relevant route of exposure, 3) acute inhalation toxicity tests were performed with the analogous substances EC 283-392-8 (LD50 > 2.3 mg/L vapor) and EC 272-723-1 (LD50 > 2.0 mg/L air). These two substances showed low acute inhalation toxicities and are not classifiable and no specific organ toxicity is evident. Taken together, EC 270-478-5 is unlikely to be acutely toxic via inhalation exposure route and no test is proposed.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008), classification of this substance is not required for acute toxicity.
