Considering the high reactivity with water of Sodium (half life of Na < 1 hour), Sodium can be considered as a hydrolytically unstable substance justifying a non-testing decision for its bioaccumulation in aquatic or benthic organisms.

Furthermore, sodium is an essential metal which is bioregulated by organism (homeostatic mechanism). Concerning the degradation product NaOH, the European RAR (2007) clearly mentions that bioaccumultion is not relevant for sodium hydroxide.
