Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The studies available on the irritating potential of 2 -aminobutanol are poorly reported and of limited reliability. However they indicate that 2 -aminobutanol is potentially corrosive to skin and eyes. It is possible that were the corrosivity study on 2 -aminobutanol repeated according to today’s standards, it may be considered only irritant. However due to the high pH, and the existing information it seems appropriate to consider it as corrosive rather than repeat the studies.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: corrosive

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the limited nature of the data it is not possible to place 2 -aminobutanol in a specific category for corrosivity, however it is also not acceptable to repeat the studies solely for the purpose of doing so. Therefore the classification of R34 according to the Dangerous substance directive and Category 1B according to GHS is considered appropriate.
