ZrCl4 is instantly hydrolyzed in water to zirconium oxide dichloride octahydrate.
ZrCl4 + H20 --> ZrOCl2 + 2 HCl
This reaction is rapid and virtually irreversible, consistent with the high oxophilicity of zirconium(IV).
