MOBILE PHASES:
The mobile phase consisted of 55% methanol and 45% phosphate buffer at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The phosphate buffer was comprised of 0.025 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 0.025 m disodium hydrogen phosphate.

DETERMINATION OF DEAD TIME:
A solution of sodium nitrate was injected in duplicate.

REFERENCE SUBSTANCES:
- Identity: acetanilide, aniline, trichlorobenzene, phenanthrene, methoxychlor, ppDDT

DETERMINATION OF RETENTION TIMES:
All the reference substances were injected, in duplicate, and the retention times determined. This is performed at least once daily so that possible changes in column performance can be allowed for.

REPETITIONS
- Number of determinations: 2

Key result
Type:
log Koc
Value:
1.7
pH:
6.59
Temp.:
21 °C
Details on results (HPLC method):
From the experimentally derived k' measurements and the literature Koc values of the reference substances a graph was plotted. The equation of the fitted regression line was determined as

log10Koc = a.log10k' + b

where a = 6.4810
b = 4.5142

The log10k' for the test substance was -0.43. Therefore, from the above equation, the estimated log10 Koc for the test substance is 1.7.

The pH of the mobile phase was 6.59 and the temperature of the room in which the HPLC work was done ranged between 21.1 and 22.3°C.
