Description of key information

In contact with water 4-(vinyloxy)butan-1-ol hydrolyses under formation of acetaldehyd and 1,4-butanediol which are both hydrolitically stable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance is not stable in water. The half life of the substance depends on pH and temperature. The hydrolysis rate constant increases with rising temperature and with decreasing pH respectively. At acidic condictions (pH 4) a half life of 0.35 h was determined at 25 °C, the half life increased with decreasing temperature (0.54 h at 20 °C). At a pH of 7 and a temperature of 20 °C a half life of 49.4 hours was determined. At 25 °C the substance was degraded by 50 % after 31.7 hours. The products of hydrolysis are identified as acetaldehyd and 1,4-butanediol which are both hydrolitically stable. Furthermore, both substances are considered as not toxic in the aquatic environment.
