T1 : time from application of the flame to a noticeable effect from the orifice.

T2 : time from application of the flame to the end of the combustion without recorded event (e.g. explosion) as in these tests or to an explosion.

The test item burned, and with the 2 mm, the flame is blown.

Pentene-3 -nitrile has been determined not to have thermal sensitivity to explosion.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
3-pentene nitrile does not present a danger of explosion under the conditions of the test.
Executive summary:

The determination of explosion properties of PENTENE-3-NITRILE was performed using thermal sensitivity test apparatus, and shock test apparatus, in accordance with EEC Directive 92/69 Appendix V part A14, except that the thermal sensitivity test was conducted with a minor modification to the tube packing procedure. The GLP were stated.

PENTENE-3-NITRILE does not present a danger of explosion under the conditions of the test.

Description of key information

Not explosive with regard to heat or shock (DSD criteria).
Testing according to CLP criteria waived, based on chemical structure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Two fully reliable experimental studies were provided for the determination of explosive properties of 3-PN, with regard to sensitivity towards heat and shock (friction not required for liquids).

Also, according to the screening procedure described in the CLP, the structure of the substance does not contain any chemical group associated with explosive properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is NOT classified as explosive according to CLP criteria, based on the structural formula and the experimental evidence.
