Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Readily biodegradable: 82.2% (O2 consumption) of Propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-, C12-13-branched-alkyl esters after 28 d (OECD 301 F).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

One study investigating the ready biodegradability of Propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-, C12-13-branched-alkyl esters according to the OECD 301F is available (Cidaria, 1997). Domestic activated sludge was used as inoculum and one concentration of the test substance was tested (40 mg/L). A mean biodegradation of 82.2% was observed after 28 d. Since the substance reached the pass level for OECD 301F (biodegradation is > 60% after 28 d, 10-day window fulfilled) Propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-, C12-13-branched-alkyl esters is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria.
