Description of key information

The substance will have a low potential for adsorption to organic matter of soils and sediments and for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms at environmental relevant pH values.

Hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) undergoes dissociation in contact with water :
a. Sn (II) will be oxidized to insoluble Sn (IV)O2: for this inorganic species, the determination of log Kow is not required (REACH regulation, Annex VII, column 2)
b. 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid:
Based on the log Kow = 2.83 at pH 2.8 and the corresponding logKow (log D) = 0.65 at pH 7 of the organic dissociation product of the ionic substance, the substance will have a low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms and a low potential for adsorption to organic matter of soils and sediments at environmental relevant pH values.
