Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

This endpoint is not a mandatory data requirement according to Annex IX of the REACH regulation 1907/2006/EC.

No experimental data evaluating the toxicity to sediment organisms is available for Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues (CAS No. 90622-40-5).

For Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues direct and indircet exposure is minimum or unlikely based on the use information, as presented in chapter 3.5 of the technical dossier. Furthermore, the substance Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues exhibits a log Koc value of > 5 and is poorly soluble in water (< 1 mg/L). The Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R7.b (ECHA, 2012) states that once insoluble chemicals enter a standard STP, they will be extensively removed in the primary settling tank and fat trap and thus, only limited amounts will get in contact with activated sludge organisms. Nevertheless, once this contact takes place, these substances are expected to be removed from the water column to a significant degree by adsorption to sewage sludge (Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a, (ECHA, 2012). Thus, it is unlikely that concentrations of the substance will be discharged to the aqueous/sediment compartment. Furthermore, no effects on aquatic algae, daphnia and fish were observed in the range of water solubility and the potential for bioaccumulation is expected to be low since absorbed molecules of the substance will be metabolized.

Therefore, Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues is unlikely to pose a risk for sediment organisms in general and testing is thus omitted.
