Description of key information

The auto ignition temperature was determined in three independent determinations. A
lowest value of the main study of 441 °C was found.
Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature according to EU A.15 (rounded down to a whole
multiple of 5 °C) of Tar wood is 440 °C.

This study was performed in order to determine the auto ignition temperature of the test

item Tar wood.

Auto ignition temperature is a physico-chemical property which is needed for hazard assessment

and safety purposes. The method determines the minimum temperature of the

inner surface of an enclosure that will result in ignition of a gas, vapour or liquid injected

into the enclosure. The auto ignition temperature of a substance is the lowest temperature

at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of

ignition, such as a flame or spark.

The requirements for repeatability of the DIN standard are stated as follows: Three lowest

values of the main study have to lie within a range of 10 K (if auto ignition temperature is

below 300 °C) respectively 20 K (if auto ignition temperature is above 300 °C).

The lowest value of the auto ignition temperature is 441 °C. This value was determined

using 5 respectively 3 drops test item. The test item showed auto ignition after 10 respectively

11 seconds.

The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest

values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the

auto ignition temperature is stated as 440 °C.

The study was conducted according to procedure and demands of EU-Method A.15 and

DIN 51794. The acceptable range which is demanded in the DIN standard was fulfilled.

All measured values show good correlation. No observations were made which might

cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.
