Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Conclusions:
Lactic acid is not considered to be oxidising. The substance does not contain any of the components listed in “Endpoint specific guidance R.7.1.13.3 table R.7.1-29”.
Executive summary:

In accordance with a Column 2 adaption of REACH Annex VII, section 7.13, this study does not need to be conducted because the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials. Based on its chemical structure, an exothermic reaction between either the alcohol group or the carboxylic acid group with a combustible material can be excluded.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, section 7.13, the study does not need to be conducted because the test item is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, as it only contains oxygen not chemically bonded to nitrogen or halogens, but instead to carbon or hydrogen. As the substance is placed in a liquid form on the market, no testing is required for solids or gases.
