Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= 300 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 101 325 Pa

The test item was observed over a temperature range of 100 to 300°C. No change was observed up to 215°C. The material started to brown and char above 215°C.

The test material developed a mottled appearance, light tan colour with black flecks, darkening further between 280°C and 290°C and almost entirely black at 300°C.

There was a small amount of black ‘tarry’ condensate higher up the tube. The charred material smelled of burnt plastic. There were some lighter coloured chalk type material residues in amongst the black ‘tar’/’soot’. As no melting point was observed up to 300°C the conclusion of this study is that the substance has a melting point ≥300°C based on the majority of the results obtained.

Conclusions:
The test material did not melt under the test conditions, therefore, the melting point is ≥300°C.
Executive summary:

Crane J (2018) is a GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 102 and is therefore reliable without restrictions (Klimisch 1). The study was conducted using a capillary method.

The test item was observed over a temperature range of 100 to 300°C. The test item did not melt under the test conditions, therefore, the melting point is ≥300°C.

Description of key information

The melting point of the test substance is ≥300°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
300 °C

Additional information

The study was conducted following OECD guideline 102 and is GLP-compliant and is therefore reliable without restrictions. The melting point was determined by the capillary method. The test item did not melt under the test conditions, therefore it was concluded that the melting point is ≥300°C.
