Description of key information

Tripotassium hexacyanocobaltate is very mobile under typical environmental conditions and used as standard tracer for groundwater investigations, including limestone-dolomite-sand- and sandstone aquifers and some formations of significant clay content, and as tracer for soil moisture distributions (Eriksson et al. Ground water problems. Pergamon Press, 1968). Cobalt cyanide complexes in general were found to be relatively mobile in soils (Canadian Soil Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Environmental and Human Health: Cyanide, 1997 and references therein). Tripotassium hexacyanocobaltate dissociates in water to potassium and hexacyanocobaltate ions. Because of their ionic nature, the associated strong hydrophilic properties and mobility in environmental solutions, the conduct of adsorption/desorption testing is not considered scientifically necessary.
