Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The adverse effects of the test substance on the growth and cell density of the green algae,Selenastrum capricornutum were evaluated according to the EPA method OPPTS 850. 5400. Exponentially growing algal cells were exposed for a period of 96 h to the nominal test concentrations of 0.1, 1, 10, 100, and 1000 mg/l of test substance dissolved in water.

The study was performed using Lab Control water [Type 1, reverse-osmosis, de-ionized (RO/DI) water which was then spiked with nutrients (with EDTA) and filtered. The cell densities were measured at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hrs following dosing and each flask was checked for inhibition by measuring the mean cell density with a haemocytometer. Inhibition of the algal population was measured as inhibition/reduction in growth and cell density, relative to control.

For the initial range finding testing, there were no significant reductions in Selenastrum capricornutum cell density in any of the substance concentrations at 48, 72, or 96 hrs; the NOEC was 1000 mg/l for growth and the growth EC50 was >1000 mg/l at 48, 72, or 96 hrs. A significant reduction in algal growth response was not observed in any of the test treatments; therefore, definitive testing was not required and the results of the range-finding test are considered.
