Description of key information

The toxicity of the ScFOS to the freshwater flea Daphnia magna, the freshwater green algae Raphidocelis subcapitata and the freshwater carp (Cyprinus carpio), i.e. the three trophic levels, was investigated in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with OECD Guideline No. 202, OECD Guideline No. 201 and OECD 203 respectively.

Fish:

Under the test conditions, no mortality or sublethal effects were observed in the control and at the limit concentration throughout the exposure period. The 96h-LC50 for carp (Cyprinus carpio) exposed to ScFOS was higher than the nominal limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (highest test concentration).

Invertebrates:

Under the test conditions, no immobility was observed in the control and at any of the test concentrations throughout the exposure period. The 48h-EC50 for Daphnia magna exposed to ScFOS was higher than the nominal limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (highest test concentration).

Algae:

Under the test conditions, ScFOS inhibited growth rate and yield of this freshwater algae species significantly at analytically confirmed nominal concentrations of 22 mg/L and higher.

The 72h-EC50 for growth rate inhibition (ErC50) and yield inhibition (EyC50) were higher than the nominal limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (highest test concentration).

The 72h-NOEC for growth rate inhibition and yield inhibition equaled the nominal concentration of 10 mg/L based on statistical significance.

The 72h-EC10 for growth rate inhibition (ErC10) and yield inhibition (EyC10) were higher than the nominal limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (highest test concentration).
