Conclusion on classification

Ammonium-(S)-lactate fully dissociates into NH4+ ions and lactate, is readily biodegradable, does not bioaccumulate and has low potential for adsorption to sediment and soil. The ecotoxicology of ammonium lactate can be understood in terms of the ecotoxicology of ammonium and lactic acid. No adverse effects of lactic acid or ammonium relevant for classification and labelling have been observed in the acute and prolonged aquatic toxicity studies with fish, daphnids and algae. Therefore, ammonium-S-lactate is not classified for environmental hazards.
