Conclusions:
The study showed 54.6% biodegradability for 7.0 mg/L test material and 41.7% biodegradability at 9 mg/ L test material at 28 days. These results show the test substance has good potential for biodegradation.
Executive summary:

The study assesses the potential for 25% M528 -7 (W/W) neutralised with DEA in deionised water to readily biodegrade in water. The study was conducted under GLP in accordance with OECD guideline 306: Biodegradability in seawater, using a closed bottle method. All validity criteria were met. Testing was conducted using natural seawater that was coarse filtered, aged via aeration and darkness prior to testing and fortified with nutrients. The inoculum shown to have suitable biological activity based on the reference material results. Test substance experiments were performed with 2 replicates per concentration, per time period. For the degradability negative control dissolved oxygen was at an average of 7.68, 7.02, 6.55, 6.54, 6.35 and 6.50 mg O2/ L for 0, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days (3 replicates). For the positive control (reference substance, sodium benzoate) the degradability was 83.1%, 86.5%, 90.5%, 97% and >100% for 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days (2 replicates).

The definitive test showed that at 7.0 mg/L the test substance readily biodegradability was 54.6% at day 28, while at the test concentration of 9 mg/L the readily biodegradability was 41.7% at Day 28. The results from this study show that the test substance show a good potential to biodegrade but it is not deemed to be readily biodegradable.
